Why Short-Term Mission Teams

If you think you need to go on a mission trip in order to share the gospel, think again. We are all called to be ready “in season and out,” as scripture says, to give a reason for the hope we carry. In that sense, your role as an ambassador for the gospel is the same whether you work at Starbucks or in the most remote jungle on earth.

While it is true that going on a short-term mission team can provide tremendous insight into your faith, it can also provide valuable service and encouragement to those who work full-time on the field—and to those they serve. Short-term service will also stretch you as you move into unfamiliar territory, working alongside fellow church members that you may not know well. You’ll be immersed into a different culture—sometimes in situations where the need is overwhelming. You’ll have to rely on God and on one another as never before. It is quite likely you will be changed.

However, strengthened faith and personal growth are the results versus the goals short-term missions.

In short, our goals in sending short-term teams are to:

  • Learn what it looks like to share Jesus with each another and with those we serve
  • Serve and encourage those in full-time missions or ministry in the places God calls us
  • Learn what God is already doing locally, regionally, and abroad, and gain clarity about our part
  • Encourage and build up one another and those we serve, helping them to identify and maximize the gifts, resources, and callings God has given them.

Whether we are traveling to Nicaragua or to a regional or local outreach, these goals don’t change. Practical needs may vary, but our aim is always to see the gospel realized in ourselves and in those we serve—and to be open to allowing God to show us what that looks like.

Mission Trip FAQs

Who can go?

We are looking for believers who are willing to commit to the training, to support fellow team members along the way, to learn, and to serve.

How much does it cost?

Note: We encourage you NOT to make your decision based on cost alone. Pray about whether or not you are to go, and make your decision accordingly. While we do not have scholarships, part of being on the team is committing to praying and working together for everyone’s finances to come through.

Team Fees of $825 + Airfare (approximate $475.00). Approximate total = $1275.00.

What kind of time commitment is involved?

Besides the time for the trip itself, team members will be asked to participate in six pre-trip training and service dates, and one post-trip follow-up meeting. Specific dates are to be determined, but we will begin with a kick-off in late March, followed by twice monthly gatherings in April and May. We’ll meet once in June before our trip and once in July after our return.

How can I learn more?

We will hold an information meeting on Sunday, February 12 after worship.
